恐竜は骨盤の形で「竜盤類」と「鳥盤類」の二つのグループに分けられる。竜盤類の骨盤はトカゲやワニと同じように恥骨が前を向いている。鳥盤類の骨盤は恥骨が座骨と平行に後方を向いている。このような形は鳥類の骨盤と似ているため鳥盤類と名づけられたが、このグループは鳥類の直接の祖先ではない。           

From their pelvis form, dinosaurs can be divided in two groups: "Saurischia" (lizard-hipped) and "Ornithischia" (bird-hipped). Saurichian pelvis is similar to Lizards and Crocodiles' pelvis as pubis is pointing toward the front of the animal. In Ornithischian pelvis, the pubis in pointing backward and is parallel to the ischium.

Even if the Ornitischian was named because of the similarities they shared with bird’s pelvis, it does not mean that this group is a direct ancestor of birds.
